Gateway of India is a gate architecture built in the early 20th century in the Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was raised to recognize the arrival in December 1911 at Apollo Bunder, Mumbai (at that point Bombay) of King-Emperor George V and Queen-Empress Mary, the first British ruler to visit India. At the hour of the regal visit, the passage was not yet constructed, and a cardboard structure welcomed the ruler.
The establishment stone was laid in March 1913 for a landmark worked in the Indo-Saracenic style, fusing components of sixteenth-century Marathi design. The last plan of the landmark by designer George Wittet was endorsed distinctly in 1914, and development was finished in 1924. The structure is a victorious curve made of basalt, which is 26 meters (85 feet) high.
