The Kanheri Caves (Kānherī-guhāḥ) are a gathering of caverns and rock-cut landmarks cut into a gigantic basalt outcrop in the woodlands of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, on the previous island of Salsette in the western edges of Mumbai, India. They contain Buddhist models what's more, help carvings, compositions, and engravings, dating from the first century CE to the tenth century CE. Kanheri originates from the Sanskrit Krishnagiri, which means dark mountain.
